Patricia Anne Mhoon (Pattie), age 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Fife, Washington on September 9, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is now delighting in the glories of Heaven and rejoicing in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pattie was born on December 13, 1939, in Monticello, Arkansas. After graduating from high school, she went to college and then moved to Little Rock where she was employed for ten years in various secretarial capacities. In 1963, her sister Ernestine Rice and husband Frank Rice came to Kirkland, Washington to make their home. Pattie arrived for a visit in 1966 and immediately decided to stay. She found a job with Boeing, and then worked for an international land development company where she advanced to the position of assistant vice-president.

In 1973, Pattie sensed a need for a drastic change in her life and accepted an assignment at the business office of Youth With a Mission, in Lausanne, Switzerland. While there, she also worked with the first Congress on International World Evangelization held by the Billy Graham Association. She devoted herself to both of these tasks at the same time, sometimes working late into the night. The schedule took its toll, and she came back home to Arkansas for a much-needed rest. Once she regained her strength, she returned to the Seattle area and held temporary jobs until it was time for her to embark on her next overseas assignment, this one at an international school in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa.

At the close of the school year in Dakar, Pattie returned to Seattle and completed a degree in Business Administration at Seattle Pacific University in 1978. She was not finished working overseas, though, and Brussels, Belgium, was the scene of next chapter of her life. There she served for three years as the financial director of International Correspondence Institute (now called Global University). She was subsequently invited to Singapore where she held the position of business administrator in a five-thousand member church. By this time, she was ready to live in the U.S. again.

Once back home, Pattie took up a new challenge, enrolling in Tacoma's University of Puget Sound School of Law at the age of forty-six. She successfully met all the requirements of becoming a lawyer, opened up her own law firm, and practiced appellate law for thirteen years until she retired in 2005. During this period of her life, she became acquainted with Quota International, an outstanding non-profit service organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C. She joined Tacoma Quota in 1998 and served first as club president, then as Lieutenant Governor of District 14, then as Governor in 2005-2006, and as West Area Director from 2008 to 2010. Thereafter, she continued to be active member of the organization.

People loved being around Pattie, and story after story could be told of what a special woman she was. She had a deep faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, and no one who ever heard her sing in the various meetings and churches she attended could possibly forget her voice or not long to hear it again. The wonderful impact she had on her friends and colleagues cannot be calculated. They will cherish her memory and miss her greatly until they have the joy of being reunited with her in heaven.

Pattie was preceded in her passing by her parents Ernest Clide Mhoon and Lois Inez Lawson Mhoon, and by her sister Ernestine Mhoon Rice. Friends in the Tacoma area are planning private gatherings in Pattie's honor, but at her request, there will be no formal memorial service. Those who wish to give gifts in her memory to the ministries and charities of their choice are of course encouraged to do so.
