Obituary for Helge Asp

Helge Eugene Asp, born October 9, 1930, passed away peacefully in the Adult Care home he had been living in, May 8, 2017. He had dementia the last few years of his life.

He was born, at home, in Lamont, Pennsylvania, to Hannah and Ernest Asp. He was the youngest of nine children. After graduating from High School, Helge joined the United States Air Force with his best friend Ronald Gustafson. Helge worked as a mechanic on the airplanes.

After leaving the Air Force, he married Bertha O'Leary on May 29, 1954. His only daughter, Kathy, was born in December of the following year. In 1957, they moved across country to Seattle, to work for Boeing. He worked there for a very short time and then got a job with Continental Can Company, as a machinist, for 25 years. After that company closed, he went to work for General Electric for 10 years, until he retired.

Helge loved to fish and also loved planting his vegetable garden, pruning his many fruit trees and grape vines and working on his one acre of land. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, his 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Asp, his daughter Kathy (Tony) Zupan, his grandsons Chris (Jessica) Zupan and Todd Zupan and his great-grandchildren Careema and Jeffery Zupan.

The family requests that if you wish to make a donation in his name, please donate to The Alzheimer's Foundation, or the American Diabetes Association.
