Obituary for Gary Vogel

Gary Lee Vogel was born to Harold and Mary Vogel on January 25th, 1952 in Portland Oregon. He was raised in Bridal Veil Oregon with his three sisters, Cris Cartisser (Roland), Victoria and Emma Vogel and brother Harold Dean Vogel. Gary attended Corbett Elementary and High School. Following high school he attended Manpower and studied small engine repair. It was there he met Sharon Carey (deceased) whom he married in the spring of 1972 and had his first child, Tamara (Portland, Or). Divorced in 1974, Gary moved to Tacoma Washington where he joined the Army National Guard. He proudly served his country for 9 years. It was also there that he met his wife of 41 years, Marcia Hasenbalg. Married in March of 1976, Gary and Marcia resided in Tacoma WA for a time, before moving to Eatonville WA. With the help of his new in-laws he built their family home, where they raised their three children, Rachel (Puyallup), Sarah (Eatonville) and Joshua (Eatonville) Vogel. He loved nature, the native american culture, and building things with his own two hands. He worked in the construction field for most of his life, and was an impressive wood-worker. He routinely talked to strangers and made friends wherever he went. Many would unwittingly become his "adopted children." He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his wife and children, his sisters and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by Mary (mother), Harold (father), and Harold “Dean” (brother) Vogel, and his beloved grandson, Mason Chance Heffernan. All who knew him are welcome to join in a celebration of his life on Earth Day, Saturday April 22nd from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at Bethel Learning Center 21818 38th Avenue E, Spanaway, Washington 98387.
